The Original Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Duo

In 2009, director Niels Arden Oplev gave us the original film adaptation of Stieg Larrson’s best selling novel, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The Swedish drama-thriller made $104 million at the box office worldwide. Though Oplev’s adaptation was released before David Fincher’s in 2011, Fincher’s film, starring Rooney Mara, remains the more popular of the two. Regardless, Opley’s success may have been partially due to the outstanding performance of Swedish actress Noomi Rapace… (Click title above to continue reading)

Photo

Actress of the Week: Amanda Seyfried – A Wide-Eyed Bombshell

If there’s one blonde on everyone’s mind right now, it’s Hollywood starlet, soap TV star and model Amanda Michelle Seyfried. Not only does she star in films of all genres and budgets, but Seyfried has also got some serious pipes. From comedy to horror to musical, this diverse actress proves she’s not only a pretty face, but a commanding actress.

Playing the “Dumb Girl”

Originally from Pennsylvania, Seyfried began modeling in print ads when she was just 11. She soon began taking small, uncredited parts on TV soap operas but eventually gained regular spots on shows like As the World Turns and All My Children.

In 2003, Amanda auditioned for the Tina Fey written box office hit and high school staple film Mean Girls as the dim-witted character Karen. Seyfried originally auditioned for the part of head “plastic” Regina George, but seemed to fit Karen’s personality much better… (Click title above to continue reading)

Photo

‘Les Miserables’ Review: Nails Notes But Loses Direction

When bringing a staged musical to the big screen several issues need to be resolved; from 360 degrees of shooting as opposed to one angle, to rewriting characters for film instead of live dramatized theatre, it can be difficult to get the story to read just right. Fortunately, Les Miserables is able to create a strong atmosphere that doesn’t seem forced or awkward. While the the direction of Tom Hooper fell flat, the strength of the vocals really define Les Mis as a successful film adaptation.

The Good

Anne Hathaway as Fantine

Though her screen time is brief, Anne Hathawaysure put on a show. Her training with legendary vocal coach Joan Lader months before filming allowed Hathaway to belt the end of “I Dreamed a Dream,” all while crying.

In an interview with WordAndFilm.com, Hathaway explains how hard it was for her to relate to the life full of loss and suffering that Fantine experiences; however, once she realized that sexual slavery exists even in our world today, she was able to consider her part not really as acting, but as her honoring the painful lives of the less fortunate. And it certainly showed… (Click title above to continue reading)

Jackson & Anne Hathaway Battle in Funny or Die Sad-Off

On Christmas Day, both Tom Hooper’s Les Miserables and Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained, two of the most anticipated movies of the winter season, will go head-to-head at the box office. While the two have completely different target audiences, there’s definitely a lot of people who want to see and will enjoy both. There’s really only one way to compare these two films: Which film is sadder?

That’s right the hilarious folks from Funny-or-Dietook Hollywood’s baddest motherf*cking actor,Samuel L. Jackson, and placed him against movie land’s sweetheart, Anne Hathaway in a round of the Sad-Off!
Several months ago we were treated to thefirst trailer for Identity Thief, which placedBridesmaids actress Melissa McCarthy at odds with funny man Jason Bateman. The two face-smacked, ball-kicked and rumble-n-tumbled all throughout our first look. This time around, they’re at it again in round 2, but a third party joins the festivities and they’re looking for blood.

From director Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses) comes a story millions of people have experienced every year: identity theft. Only this time instead of sitting around, waiting for the Department of Justice to take control, Sandy (Bateman) decides to send the identity thief back to Middle Earth… (click title above to continue reading)

Photo

‘Drift’ Trailer: Sam Worthington & Xavier Samuel Star in 70s...

‘Drift’ Trailer: Sam Worthington & Xavier Samuel Star in 70s Surf Drama

Myles Pollard and Xavier Samuel lead the film as brothers Andy and Jimmy Kelly.
Hello, RMN fans! If you’ve noticed some of our usual writers have been a bit MIA lately, it’s because this week was exam week for many of us. I’m sure some of you share (or remember) our pain, so for us and for you I offer ten great movies to bid good riddance to the semester. Whether you want to relive the experience or are in college or high school, you should check out….

10. Bad Teacher

Sometimes our teachers make us laugh. Sometimes they help us learn valuable life lessons. And sometimes, they make us hate them. Whatever the case may be as to how you’re feeling during your finals week, Bad Teacher… (Click title above to continue reading)

Breaking Down the 2013 Golden Globe Nominations: ‘Lincoln’,...

Breaking Down the 2013 Golden Globe Nominations: ‘Lincoln’, ‘Argo’ & ‘Django’ Lead

After a week of nominations and wins from New York Film Critic’s Circle, Screen Actors Guild, and Critic’s Choice, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has released a list of their nominees for the 70th Golden Globe Awards! While we’ve seen many titles make the cut on previous nomination lists, a couple films a missed the Golden Globes boat completely, and several performances received recognition for the first time. You have to love the movie award season!… (Click title above to continue reading)

New Trailer: Will & Jaden Smith Star in Shyamalan’s ‘After...

New Trailer: Will & Jaden Smith Star in Shyamalan’s ‘After Earth’

Everyone will have their eyes on director M. Night Shyamalan’s new project, After Earth. After several questionable attempts at blending sci-fi and horror, the director, known for his signature twists, will attempt to gain back the fans he lost with The Happening, The Last Airbender and Lady in the Water.

While his visions are unique, as of late his reputation has taken a quite a hit, primarily with messy storytelling and stagnant story lines. Can he gain back the reputation he garnered with 1999′s Sixth Sense and 2002′s Signs? By the way this is the first trailer in a while that does not have Shyamalan’s name attached…

A Father Helping His Son Conquer Fear

The story is compelling, and while not necessarily original, it’s characters and the actors playing them will get people to the seats. Whether they walk out raving or slamming it, that’ll be up to Shyamalan.

Set one thousand years into the future, the story focuses on a father, General Cypher Raige (Will Smith) and his son, Kiati Raige (Jaden Smith), and their survival on an inhabitable… (Click title above to continue reading)

M.
With a year packed with exceptional films came an even greater year for cinematic soundtracks. In several cases, the soundtrack was far better the film for which it was scored.

Yesterday, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences released their nomination list for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Among those selected for possible honors stand the scores for The Dark Knight Rises, The Artist, The Muppets, The Descendants, Midnight in Paris, The Hunger Games, Brave and more!

The film and television division of video game publisher and developer Ubisoft, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, has already collaborated with New Regency once before. The companies plan to bring Tom Clancy’s Assassin’s Creed to the big screen with filming to begin in 2013, but another project has also been announced.

Enter ‘Splinter Cell’

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell has been signed on through New Regency. Although the projects are separate, Splinter Cell’sproduction will build off the relationship formed through Assasin’s Creed.

“Enjoy these final moments of peace, for I have returned to have my vengeance…” the words spoken by none other than Benedict Cumberbatch invite us into the only franchise that rivaled Star Wars in its prime. On May 17th, 2013, nearly three years after its predecessor, director J.J. Abrams will send us back into space on an epic and wide scale adventure titled Star Trek Into Darkness.

Abrams Keeps Cumberbatch’s Villain Under Wraps

With today’s advancement in technology and social media it’s difficult to keep anything under wraps for long, especially when you’ve got millions of fans bitting at any information given.
