Last week’s disappointing box office numbers (the second worst of 2012) were overshadowed by this week’s new releases. The top 12 films in theaters this week earned $75.2 million, with three of the new releases taking the top three spots. Unfortunately, the the anticipated remake of Dredd debuted dreddfully (pun definitely intended) in sixth place. The $6.3 million the film made this weekend was half of what Judge Dredd made in its first weekend in 1995 (and it was considered a box office flop in its day). But let’s look on the bright side; autumn is here, which means it’s the start of the fall and holiday movie seasons!
