‘Detachment’ DVD Review: A Bold Statement on America’s School System

detachment tells the story of the downfall of America’s education system through the eyes of substitute teacher Henry Barthe’s (Brody). During Barthe’s one month stay at the new school, he encounters many heart-wrenching situations on campus, but deals with a whole new set of troubles at home. Not only is he dealing with his grandfather’s failing health and his own empty life, but Barthe finds himself housing a young prostitute (Sami Gayle) after agreeing to take her in. From the principal (Harden) who’s about to get fired, to the teachers who get spit on and cursed at, to the parents who have no desire to help their kids, Detachment chronicles several stories in a mission to depict the harsh realities of public school and personal struggles….
